Besides the actions related to the caring of stray animals, it is of great importance for us to enhance an animal friendly spirit to humans and forward volunteerism by organizing:
– Training and socialization programs for strays
– Events and instructive informative seminars for groups of citizens, students, club members, unions, agencies and authorities
Programs to inform citizens of their responsibilities and rights according to animal welfare legislation
Groups against the abuse of animals (stray and domesticated) and in favor of defending the rights and well-being of animals
Actions and initiatives for the relief of citizens in possible and varied problems during their coexistence with stray and/or domesticated animals
In addition, in order to combat the problems faced by stray animals, but also to reduce their number within the region of Attiki, we create and participate in actions of:
1
Sterilization & Health Care
2
Adoptions
3
Hosting promotions
4
Training and informative programs
5
Protection from abuse
6
Management & support of shelters for stray animals
Sterilization programs are the only effective method to drastically reduce the excessive number of stray animals, which in our country are estimated to exceed 3.000.000, placing it in a very low ranking compared to the European average.
“Solidarity for Stray Animals” undertakes the sterilization of rescued and housed animals in shelters or homes, in collaboration with veterinary structures with excellent treatment conditions and experts with experience, who generously offer their love for animals.
“Solidarity for Stray Animals” and its network of volunteers, either autonomously or organized in collaboration with shelters and hosting structures for strays, takes care of rescued animals in order for them to receive the feeding and medical care they need. This is a neuralgic project of our organization, considering that the majority of rescued strays are in poor health, as they have suffered in several cases of abusive behavior by humans and have experienced the hardships of life on the street, such as malnutrition, poisoning by inappropriate foods and liquids, diseases, germs, injuries, etc.
The purpose of our organization, among other things, is to promote adoption programs with constant updates for strays who need a permanent home. This action aims to find all rescued animals a family that will take care of them with love, without perpetuating the phenomena of animals being confined in cages in shelters. In addition, for the animals given for adoption, our volunteers ensure that they are promoted to families that will generously offer what a companion animal needs, informing the adopters of the special needs that each one may have. Via an interview, they rule out scenarios of abusive behavior from the prospective adopters.
In addition to the adoption programs, “Solidarity for Stray Animals ” highlights the needs that exist for sheltering animals, as a rescued stray, especially if it is quite abused or in a bad condition pathologically and psychologically. In that case, it needs to be close to a person who will take care of it and immediately provide it with the medical care it needs in cooperation with the specialist veterinarians, but also help it to be properly socialized in terms of its behavior with people and other animals before it is given for adoption or hosted in an animal shelter.
